Liverpool have been snubbed by French club Lens after making a new attempt to sign defender Modibo Sagnan, according to France Football.

The French sports magazine claim the Ligue 2 club have refused to cave in to the Premier League big hitters’ attempts to land the 19-year-old centre-back.

France Football report Liverpool first tried to sign Sagnan in the January window and reignited their pursuit this summer but Lens have refused to sell the young Frenchman.

Good move for Liverpool?

Liverpool always have an eye on the stars of the future, as well as the present, and have swamped their age-group sides with both domestic talent and youngsters from across the globe. Sagnan has attracted attention after making the step up from the reserves of second-tier French side Lens to their first team. He made a handful of senior appearances in the second half of last season and has also been named in the matchday squads at the start of the new campaign. Standing at 6ft 2in (source: Transfermarkt), the teen already cuts a commanding presence and has the physicality needed for a centre-back.

Likely to happen?

Don’t rule out Liverpool eventually securing the signature of the teenage Frenchman. The Merseyside club’s recruitment team have been one step ahead of many of their rivals in recent windows and have showed, as with the Naby Keita deal, they are prepared to be patient in their willingness to finalise a deal for a player they really want.
