A number of Leeds United fans have turned to social media to beg former star and current Liverpool midfielder James Milner to return to Elland Road after he was left celebrating the club’s win over Norwich City.

The Whites saw off the Canaries 3-0 at Carrow Road courtesy of goals from Mateusz Klich, Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez and after having seen the home side paint the away dressing room pink in a bid to gain an advantage, Milner turned to his personal Twitter account to herald victory.

His comment led to plenty of Leeds supporters asking that the 32-year-old returns back to the side he came through as a youngster, before leaving for Newcastle back in 2004.

This is FutbolĀ has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

The long distance love affair between Leeds and Milner looks to be never ending, but it remains to be seen whether he will ever step back onto the Elland Road pitch as a player for the club. You can understand why the supporters are so desperate to see him back – not only is he a top quality player but there is indeed a sense of what might have been after seeing him come through the youth ranks at the club. Sold as a result of the financial issues suffered in the early 2000s, he is a Leeds boy through and through and although he might be a Liverpool player right now, home is where the heart is, and that definitely seems to be in Yorkshire. Perhaps circumstances will align one day and he will be turning out in the White once again. If not, at least the supporters know he is still following the club and will be among their ranks for the years to come.
