Match of the Day pundit Phil Neville is confident about Everton this year after they made a bright start to the season under new boss Marco Silva.

The former Toffees’ defender drooled over his old club, hailing the signings they made this summer after a good start to the season saw them draw 2-2 with Wolves last week, followed by a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

He told presenter Gary Lineker on Match of the Day: “The signings they made on transfer deadline day – Mina, Gomes, Zouma, I think they were massive signings, Richarlison as well. We haven’t seen most of them, but I’ve got a sneaky feeling this could be Everton’s year.

“I’m a big fan of Marco Silva and I think this could be our year.”

OPINION

Everton’s bright start to the season is definitely down to their new signings, who Neville is right to be full of praise for. Silva has scoured the transfer market for some brilliant players, and they could help the Toffees to one of their most successful ever seasons. With the quality they have, they are more than capable of challenging for a spot in Europe next season – and under their new manager, they are going to be playing much more entertaining football than we saw with Sam Allardyce. Everton always seem to go under the radar due to the performances of the top six, but they will need to watch out, particularly with the start Richarlison has made at the club. He scored last week at Wolves as well as against the Saints, and he will prove to be one of Everton’s most pivotal players if he maintains his current form. Fans certainly have a lot to shout about this season, and it is not surprising considering the top names they have brought to Goodison Park. This year is definitely a good year to be a Toffees’ supporter.
