A section of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to express their support for Andre Gomes after he tweeted his delight at his first visit to Goodison Park.

The on-loan Barcelona midfielder attended the stadium on Saturday for the club’s 2-1 Premier League win against Southampton and explained afterwards he “can’t wait” to play at the “beautiful” venue.

Gomes’ post on his personal Twitter account generated plenty of responses from Evertonians keen to see the Portugal international in action when he has overcome his injury problems.

COMMENTARY:

It is clear the Goodison faithful are eager to see Gomes in action following his deadline-day arrival from Barcelona. The central midfielder has failed to nail down a starting spot at Camp Nou following his summer-of-2016 transfer from Valencia that cost £30million. There is no shame in being behind Sergio Busquets and company, and Gomes has made the correct decision to move to a club where he can expect to play regularly. Morgan Schneiderlin and Idrissa Gueye have been paired in central midfield in Marco Silva’s opening two matches in charge, which have yielded four points out of a possible six. But Gomes is an upgrade on both of those players and should be eased into the starting XI when he returns to full fitness, most likely immediately after the early-September international break. Gomes will provide string-pulling class to a central midfield that has been high on energy and graft in recent years but short of guile.
