Everton are plotting at raiding Ligue 1 side Lille for centre back and club captain Adama Soumaoro if they cannot secure their top targets of Yerry Mina and Marcos Rojo this summer, according to Get French Football.

The football news website claim that the 26-year-old defensive commander is not keen on leaving Lille and while the Toffees are eyeing up a move for the powerhouse, there are other targets ahead of him on Marco Silva’s shortlist.

It is stated that Everton have held interest in the Lille man for the past year but that there has been no official move made to capture his signature, with Barcelona’s Yerry Mina and Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo ahead in the pecking order.

Good move for Everton?

If the Toffees end up with Soumaoro come the end of the summer transfer window, then fans will know that Marco Silva will be disappointed.

Mina and Rojo are two ambitious signings and getting either through the door would be a real coup over their rivals, but the Lille man is hardly of the same calibre.

It is good to know that Everton do have other options in case of disappointment for their top targets – any good football manager worth his salt should – but really it is a couple of steps down the ladder in terms of quality.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though Silva has his sights set on bigger fish than Soumaoro and it does not sound as though the Lille man is that keen to leave for Goodison Park anyway.

If all goes to plan, the 26-year-old will remain as a back up option as Everton hunt down their more exciting prospective new arrivals.
