Everton could pick up a profit in the region of £26.8million due to a buy-back clause inserted into the contract of powerhouse defender Yerry Mina, according to Marca.

The Spanish publication claim on their website that Barcelona, who sold the Colombian centre back for a fee of around £27million (€30.2million) this summer, have included an option to purchase him again for £53.8million (€60million), a deal which will only be able to be activated in 2020.

Mina is yet to appear for the Toffees after his summer move, with a injury keeping him out of action for the opening fixtures of the campaign.

Opinion

A fee of £53.8million is a massive amount for any side, but including that clause as part of the deal does take away any sort of negotiating power for the Toffees. Is he ever going to be worth that sort of money in the near future? Probably not, and so Everton should have few fears about losing him back to Barcelona, and even if they do, at least they nearly double their money on his exit. It just goes to show how highly the Spanish giants rate the South American enforcer that they were keen to include some sort of deal which would allow them to secure a reunion later down the line, and Everton should be excited about his potential to be a success – although they would love to have him out on the pitch than in the recovery room right now. They have him for at least two years before Barcelona can come sniffing, but impressive displays could have other clubs sniffing around sooner.
