Bolton Wanderers are the most likely club to come out on top of the fierce battle for Everton midfielder Joe Williams as Marco Silva green lights his loan exit from the club, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news website claim that the 21-year-old is set to link up with the Championship side after a whole host of second tier clubs were left chasing his signing, including Bristol City, Hull City and Birmingham City.

The young talent spent time on loan at Barnsley last season, with the Tykes reportedly seeing their attempts at taking him permanently rebuffed by the Toffees.

Good move for Everton?

With so much talent already in the midfield at Goodison Park, Williams’ chances of picking up any meaningful game time are slim at best, so seeing him head out on loan will be beneficial to his development.

Bolton narrowly escaped relegation from the Championship last season and so the youngster could well have a pressure filled campaign to once again avoid the drop – which should set him up well for future campaigns where there is a lot on the line.

With a contract until 2020, Williams is heading into the second-to-last year of his time at Goodison, and so this is also a chance for him to earn a new deal before Silva chooses to cash in.

Likely to happen?

Williams always seemed likely to leave temporarily after last season’s spell away from the club and Bolton seem like a good fit for his talents.

With so many clubs battling for his capture, it was just a matter of who would win, and it appears the Wanderers may have stolen a march on their rivals.
