West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that new signings Carlos Sanchez and Lucas Perez will both be fighting it out for a place on the substitute’s bench for the club’s clash against Bournemouth this weekend.

The Hammers will be welcoming the Cherries to the London Stadium for their first home game of the season, and will be looking to climb off the foot of the table after being thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

Pellegrini was unable to call upon Sanchez and Perez for the trip to Merseyside after signing them late in the window, and has confirmed in some early team news that neither of the pair will be starting, instead stating that they could feature on the bench.

He told the club’s official website: “Carlos (Sanchez) just arrived on the last day of the deadline and Lucas Perez similar, so we will see if they are able to go on the bench but I cannot say at this moment.”

Opinion

Perhaps not the news West Ham fans would have wanted to hear, for they definitely want to see something change after being humiliated at Liverpool. West Ham’s first couple of fixtures are an absolute nightmare and so getting points from what can be deemed as winnable matches, such as the home clash against Bournemouth, is a must, or they could find themselves dead last of the Premier League with a notable gap after just a couple of weeks. Pellegrini needs to figure out who he can trust to carry out the duties in the side, for the majority of the players he put out against the Reds simply were not at the races and allowed Jurgen Klopp’s side to run riot. Bournemouth obviously do not have the same talent in their side but they cannot be underestimated, and so the Irons must be fully prepared – even without Sanchez or Perez from the start.
