West Ham defender Reece Oxford is on the verge of agreeing terms for a new deal at the London Stadium, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that Oxford, 19, has committed his future to the Hammers despite his limited first team opportunities and it seems that all that remains for the deal to be completed is the official confirmation by the club.

The 6ft 2in (transfermarkt) defender spent last season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, but only made seven appearances in the Bundesliga.

Good move for West Ham?

Oxford has had very limited first team opportunities at the London Stadium despite being one of the more highly-rated players to have come through the academy in recent years.

He has played just 17 times for the West Ham senior team and his spell in Germany last season sort of proved that he isn’t ready for the Premier League yet as he struggled with game-time at Monchengladbach.

It is certainly worth getting him to sign a new contract though.

Oxford could still prove himself useful if the Hammers defence doesn’t improve any time soon and another loan spell away from the club could see him make a huge improvement.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though the official club confirmation is coming soon after Sky Sports report shows that the deal is all but done, so it does seem very likely as though this will be announced sooner rather than later.
