A section of Newcastle United fans were left drooling over the performance of Kenedy in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Kenedy, 22, made his second debut for the Magpies after returning to Tyneside for a second loan spell from Chelsea in the summer transfer window – and it is clear that Rafa Benitez pulled off a masterstroke to get that deal over the line.

The winger was a constant menace to the Spurs defence and some Newcastle fans were thrilled with his display, with one calling him the “Brazilian Messi”.

OPINION

Kenedy had a very good performance for Newcastle, but his form certainly took a bit of a dip in the second-half. He should have scored after Joselu played him in one-on-one with Hugo Lloris but his touch was way too heavy and spoiled his chance of having a clean strike on goal. You can understand the excitement surrounding the Chelsea loanee though. The 22-year-old gets fans off their seats with his dazzling runs, isn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with Spurs’ bigger players and just has a certain X-factor about him. Comparisons to Lionel Messi are of course a bit over-exaggerated, but it just shows how exciting this player is. Kenedy should get better and better as the season goes on and that is more cause for optimism for the Toon Army. Plus, his outing on Saturday was against one of the best defences in the league. We can’t wait to see more of him.
