Middlesbrough remain in the hunt to sign West Brom forward Hal Robson-Kanu on deadline day, but a last-gap loan deal is looking unlikely due to the Baggies’ stance on the Wales international, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that Albion would consider letting Robson-Kanu, 29, leave The Hawthorns on loan, but only if they can find a last-ditch replacement before 5pm on Friday.

The £30,000-a-week (Spotrac) forward has scored two goals in six appearances across all competitions this season, and looks as though he is Darren Moore’s third-choice striker behind Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle.

Good move for West Brom?

Robson-Kanu is not the best of strikers and he gets a lot of stick from the West Brom fans, however he does a job and you cannot deny that he has popped up with some important goals off the bench during his time at The Hawthorns.

Not many Baggies supporters would be gutted to see the Wales international leave, especially as his whole time in the Black Country is based off the fact that he pulled of a ‘Cruyff Turn’ at Euro 2016, but letting him go out on loan without a replacement coming in would be a bad mistake.

Gayle and Rodriguez have both had injury problems in their career and with 46 games in the Championship, plus cup fixtures, they are likely to be sidelined at some point.

Robson-Kanu could prove useful.

Likely to happen?

As West Brom do not look as though they are going to sign a replacement forward for Robson-Kanu, then it is safe to say this is probably not going to happen despite Tony Pulis’ best efforts to sign the ex-Reading man for a second time.

The Baggies’ transfer operations have been painstakingly slow, so don’t expect any last-ditch deal here.
