Aston Villa first teamer Albert Adomah is travelling up north to complete a return to Middlesbrough, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Friday [03:34pm] that Adomah, 30, is close to wrapping up a temporary exit away from Villa Park, just days after he missed a last-minute penalty in the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Burton.

It is understood that the loan deal is expected to be announced by the end of Friday, with the loan deadline for EFL clubs at 5pm.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Adomah went from being one of Villa’s best players last season into one of their biggest liabilities, and for someone whose form has taken such a nosedive in the space of a few months, it makes every sense to get rid of him.

The 30-year-old ended last season with 15 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, but at the start of this campaign, he has done nothing of use in seven outings and the arrivals of Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie mean that he is set to drop down the pecking order.

It’s quite a surprise that Middlesbrough want the Ghana international back, but that is good business for Villa if it means getting him off their wagebill.

Likely to happen?

With Adomah on his way up to Teesside, it’s likely that this deal will be wrapped up in time for the 5pm deadline, though it seems as though it may be announced later in the day judging by the Mirror’s report.

Adomah’s penalty miss against Burton was probably the last straw for Bruce and with the fans turning against him, the player probably wants out so he can try to salvage his season elsewhere.
