Tottenham fans might have endured a bitterly disappointing transfer window when it came to new arrivals – with not a single name through the door while rivals were spending left, right and centre – but they must not forget about the efforts made in tying down some of the top talent already in north London.

Harry Kane, Davinson Sanchez and Erik Lamela are just three of the players who have put pen to paper on committing their long-term futures at the club, and were joined by manager Mauricio Pochettino to ensure that some of the core members were demonstrating they have belief and faith in the project being developed by chairman Daniel Levy.

It appears as though the Spurs chief is wanting to keep the fans satiated – and the team Pochettino has built together – by continuing the spate of contract renewals, with the Sun claiming that the club are desperately trying to tie Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen down.

The 26-year-old is an obvious target to sign up to a new deal – his influence on the team is third only to Pochettino himself and Kane up top – but it appears there is more to negotiations than meets the eye.

The Sun’s report claims that Spanish giants Real Madrid are keen on making Eriksen their new signing to replace Luka Modric – another the La Liga side signed from Spurs – in their midfield, and with two years left on his contract, the clock is ticking.

Failure to secure a new contract before next summer leaves Levy in another situation like Toby Alderweireld – facing the prospect of losing him for nothing a year later if he does not cash in.

With 12 months until the transfer window shuts next summer, the man in charge has to get something sorted, or face the heartbreak of losing one of the best players Spurs have had at their disposal.
