Hearts manager Craig Levein has said that his club remains locked in talks over a move for striker Kyle Lafferty.

He added that the striker has not requested a move and that it’s not “inevitable” that the 30-year-old will join Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The news was reported on Sky Sports Scotland on Thursday morning.

OPINION

This is a deal that a lot of people thought would be concluded by now. That it’s still ongoing suggests that the deal is fairly complicated, with Hearts holding out for more money and Rangers offering a swap deal including former skipper Lee Wallace, according to the Scottish Sun. It would be a surprise if it didn’t happen but Levein is holding firm in his valuation and has now added that Lafferty himself hasn’t asked for a move. We’re sure this is just brinksmanship, although for both parties it would be best to get the deal done before the weekend. Rangers are set for a testing time over strikers after it was reported that they had turned down an initial bid for Alfredo Morelos from Bordeaux. If they sell Morelos then they’ll be back n the market for another striker even if Lafferty eventually signs. Rangers fans will be hoping that both Lafferty and Morelos are in blue on September 1, as they anticipate taking Celtic on head-to-head in the Premiership. Lafferty has definitely got a part to play in this – his winning goal for Hearts against Celtic in the league is proof of that already.
