Raith Rovers have confirmed that Rangers goalkeeper Kieran Wright has agreed to join them on loan.

The Scottish League One club announced via their official Twitter account on Wednesday night that Wright, 18, has joined them on a temporary deal until the end of December.

Wright spent last season on loan with both Gala Fairydean and Albion Rovers.

The Scotland Under-19 international is yet to make a senior appearance for Rangers.

OPINION

Wright is one of the more promising goalkeepers in the youth set-up at Rangers and it is certainly a good idea to send him out on loan for him to earn more first team experience. While playing for the Gers development squad can come in handy due to the competitiveness of games, nothing beats playing men’s football in the lower leagues. Raith Rovers should be a good fit for Wright too as they will be within the hunt for promotion this term after finishing second to Ayr United last time out. He was part of the Albion Rovers squad that got relegated in 2017/18, and has experienced the bitter disappointment of playing football, while now he should be getting the knowledge of playing for a team gunning for silverware. Moving to Raith also shows that he has developed in the last year as they would not have usually wanted a goalkeeper who got relegated if he hadn’t improved.
