Russian club Krasnodar tabled a £5.1million (60million Swedish Krona) offer for Leeds centre-back Pontus Jansson, according to the Swedish outlet Expressen.

The club agreed the fee but Jansson himself said no to the move.

This comes after Jansson had hinted at Premier League ambitions over the summer, when he played a part in Sweden’s World Cup bid.

OPINION

Leeds fans will love this. It looks like Leeds were willing to sell the talismanic defender over the summer but Jansson himself said no. That was obviously for a move to Russia and Jansson himself has set his heart on the Premier League – he made that clear in comments just before the World Cup. Some Leeds fans took that to mean that he was agitating for a move where others saw it as him having ambitions with Leeds. It doesn’t look like he’ll be going anywhere now, especially as Leeds are really struggling at centre-back with Liam Cooper out injured. Jansson also has a knock and hasn’t featured in the league yet since his return from Russia. Manager Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t know if he’ll be fit for Saturday’s game with Norwich, but if he is he should slot straight into the side, with Luke Ayling covering in the centre in the midweek draw with Swansea. If fans still had any lingering doubts about the loyalty of Jansson, this report should convince them.
