Everton have approached Villarreal with an enquiry about Russia’s Denis Cheryshev after his brilliant World Cup campaign for this summer’s hosts, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed on their website that the La Liga attacker, who is in the form of his life having scored four goals in five appearances at the World Cup, has attracted the attention of Toffees boss Marco Silva.

Silva is keen to bolster his squad’s attacking options, after signing Richarlison from Watford, and the former Real Madrid player’s dazzling displays for Russia could result in a potential move to Goodison Park.

Cheryshev played a big part in Russia’s road to the quarter-finals, where they lost out to eventual finalists Croatia on penalties.

Good move for Everton?

Cheryshev played an instrumental part for his country at the World Cup, stepping up for the hosts and guiding his native side to the last eight.

The 27-year-old was a substitute for Russia’s opening World Cup match in Moscow before replacing the injured Alan Dzagoev and scoring a brace.

Everton would benefit from a move for a player who is in the form of his life and would provide the Toffees with many attacking opportunities throughout the season.

Likely to happen?

It is early doors but Cheryshev would fit Everton’s style of players that have been signed previously and would be a solid addition for Marco Silva.

The Portuguese boss is eyeing further reinforcements to his side and a midfielder is one of his priorities.

After his recent performances at the World Cup, Cheryshev has planted his face across the transfer window and Everton would be signing a player at the very top of his game.
