West Brom recorded their first point in the Championship on Tuesday night, with a late goal from Matt Phillips and fans flocked onto Twitter to hail their hero.

It’s not been a great start to life back in the Championship for West Brom – they lost their opening game of the season at home to Bolton and looked like making it two consecutive defeats at the City Ground.

Forest took the lead in the 59th minute but Phillips popped up to save his side with a brilliant equaliser in the 87th minute.

He almost secured all three points in a dramatic finish that saw both him and new signing Dwight Gayle hit the woodwork, but in the end they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

West Brom fans know they need Phillips firing on all cylinders if they’re going to have a hope of getting back tot he Premier league at the first time of asking and were delighted with what they saw on Tuesday.

OPINION

West Brom fans were thrilled with Matt Phillips but one fan said that he was too good for the Championship and another said that he imagines West Brom will lose him before the end of the week. Hopefully that won’t happen as Phillips and Gayle could form a lethal partnership in the Championship. Gayle was unlucky not to open his account straight away and looks like he could do for the Baggies what he did for Newcastle in 16/17.
