Tony Pulis has launched a last-gasp loan swoop on former club West Brom for striker Hal Robson-Kanu, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Middlesbrough manager is a big admirer of the former Wales international, 29, and is keen to do a deal before the Championship window shuts on Friday night.

Football Insider report Pulis is in the market for striking reinforcements after Patrick Bamford was sold to Leeds earlier this summer and Yannick Bolasie rejected his overtures to join Aston Villa.

Good move for Boro?

Yes. Robson-Kanu has certainly had an up-and-down career and is not the prolific scorer that many Boro fans will crave, especially after the exit of goalscorer Bamford. But the Welshman is a proven performer who is capable of doing an excellent job at Championship level, from either out wide or down the middle. Pulis will be well aware of Robson-Kanu’s abilities after managing him during his Baggies reign, and Boro fans should trust in his judgement if he thinks the player can add a new dimension to the attack. The manager has made a big impact at Boro and they look well placed to challenge for automatic promotion after setting the early Championship pace this season along with Friday opponents Leeds.

Likely to happen?

Much will depend upon West Brom and whether they feel they can let Robson-Kanu go, and have time to secure a late replacement. He has been on the fringes of the team, starting just a single league match this season, and is certainly behind Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez in the pecking order.
