A section of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to fume after Steve Bruce revealed Andre Green is set to join Portsmouth on loan.
Speaking at his media conference in the wake of the club’s League Cup elimination on Tuesday night, the Villa boss revealed he had given the green light for the winger, 20, to head out initially until January but with a view to a season-long switch.
“I’ve decided to let him go and get some games under his belt,” Bruce said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “After signing the recent (wingers) it will benefit him.
“I hope he goes and becomes a big success. We will then see how he is in January.”
Bruce’s decision to offload the academy product has not gone down well with a significant section of Villa supporters.

COMMENTARY:
Clearly, Green is a popular figure among the Villa faithful after graduating from the club’s academy to make a decent impression for the first team. Supporters always put great store in young players with genuine connections to the club. Hence, the delight when Villa fended off Tottenham to hold on to Jack Grealish earlier this month. But, in truth, it is the correct decision from the manager, despite the social media anger chronicled below. Green has great potential as a wide forward but has scored just one goal from 31 Villa appearances, and not yet supplied an assist. He has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of proven wing duo Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie, both of whom could make a huge impact this season. Green is better off at a League One club where he can play regularly and develop his game. He can then come back to Villa as a more rounded player with experience under his belt.
Andre Green out on loan!?!?! Seriously #avfc

Andre Green to Portsmouth is extremely bizarre. Was showing more than enough signs of being able to cut it in the Champ.
A drop to League One level is a backwards step for his development imo. Fully expect him to smash it at #Pompey #AVFC #PUP— Alex Othon (@lovespud83) August 28, 2018
Andre Green to Pompey. Bizarre

@AndreGreen_ Just heard on the way back from the Burton game that @AVFCOfficial have decided to loan you out, that is a disgrace, but I wish you all the best and come back in January and prove the potato head that he made a mistake!! #AVFC

I actually don’t believe this, poor move by Steve Bruce and the club, @AndreGreen_ should have been in and amongst the first team for us this season, this was his proper real chance to breakthrough, terrible decision in my opinion! ???? Good luck Andre! #avfc https://t.co/i0o2z26Y1b

Andre Green to Portsmouth may be the final straw. A joke of a decision. #AVFC

Absolute disgrace. Give the lad minutes off the bench. Let him grow in confidence and make an impact. Clueless. Bruce would sooner keep Elmohammady than nurture Andre Green. Bruce must go. #avfc https://t.co/Of7Rcl3zMU
