Swansea City are undoubtedly hoping to return to the Premier League after the first time of asking next season, and you would hope that they have a full-strength team in order to do that.

However, things may not be as rosy as they seem for the Swans, as they have Championship rivals Reading sniffing around Nathan Dyer, according to the Sun.

The club mainstay – who is on £32,000 a week [Spotrac] – is wanted on loan by Reading, and it looks as though boss Graham Potter is willing to let him go in order to balance the books.

Swansea would be making a huge mistake by potentially letting Dyer move to one of their closest rivals on loan for the season, and they will come to regret it by the time the season is out.

The winger made 31 appearances in all competitions last season, but could not help the Swans prevent relegation from the top flight – but his impact was undoubtedly appreciated by the club faithful.

He would have made a vital difference in their promotion quest, providing that all important attacking threat in the final third that they so desperately need this season.

Dyer has not gone yet, but considering that the club need to make an improvement on their finances, it would not be surprising that a deal is done imminently.

The team would certainly miss his presence on the pitch, and their attacking force would definitely be lacking should he leave South Wales.

The club may have no choice but to offload him, but it may prove to be one of their biggest mistakes of this new campaign.

Without him, they do not pose a real threat going forward, despite making some signings this summer – but could be the Swans’ loss could potentially be Reading’s gain.

Dyer is a player who has largely gone under the radar, but Swansea will definitely miss his influence if he makes the move to their rivals.
