Tyler Roberts has been demoted to the Leeds United Under-23s less than a week after starting for the first team, it has been confirmed.

Roberts, 19, was named in the United age-group side on Monday afternoon for their clash against Millwall in south London.

The striker is included in a starting XI that also includes defender Connor Shaughnessy, with the official teamsheet uploaded by the LUFC Youth Twitter account.

OPINION

Given his presence in the capital this afternoon, Roberts has clearly not travelled with the senior Leeds squad that left Yorkshire on Monday lunchtime to head to Wales for Tuesday night’s Championship clash against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. The warning sign came for Roberts when he was omitted from the matchday squad for Saturday’s win against Rotherham after being an unused sub in the opening two league triumphs against Stoke City and Derby County. Clearly, Marcelo Bielsa thinks the £4million January signing from West Brom (source: Daily Mail) is not ready yet for senior football. It has been a frustrating eight months for the striker, who lit up League One in the first half of last season before quitting the Baggies to sign a four-and-a-half-year Leeds deal. An ankle injury that required surgery impeded his progress, and Bielsa appears to think he needs to thrive for the Under-23s before being given the chance to build upon his senior bow against Bolton in the League Cup six days ago.
