Nottingham Forest have a list of striker targets if Ben Brereton leaves the club with Premier League star Jermaine Defoe among the wanted names, according to the Nottingham Post.

The regional newspaper claim that Aitor Karanka will look to reinforce his attacking options should the teenager complete a move to Blackburn Rovers, with the Spaniard confirming the two clubs were in talks.

The Post report that Nelson Oliveira, Tammy Abraham and Rudy Gestede were also on the list alongside Defoe, who is struggling for game time at Bournemouth.

Defoe, 35, has scored 163 Premier League goals in his career so far.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Absolutely.

Should Brereton leave, then it is important that Karanka brings in a replacement for the talented teenager.

Forest do have some good options up front but the Championship season is a long one and bringing in another player is a no-brainer, especially one of the qualify of Defoe.

Any of the other names mentioned on the list would be good additions, but Defoe would be a brilliant coup for Forest should they manage to nab him from the Cherries.

Likely to happen?

It does look like Brereton’s move to Blackburn will go through soon enough, and that will mean time is of the essence for Forest if they want to bring in a replacement.

Getting Defoe would surely be a challenging transfer to complete in a short space of time, so they may be better off going for a different target.
