Queens Park Rangers are aiming to take Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick on loan for the season, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim that the Villans’ Championship rivals believe the 5ft 9in tall centre-back (Source: Transfermarkt) could help solve their defensive problems.

Sky Sports report that QPR are aiming to address that area of the team as they have conceded 13 goals in their first four games.

Good Move for Aston Villa?

Elphick looked likely to leave Villa Park earlier this summer but after captaining the side in the League Cup on Tuesday against Burton, it’s odd to read a report about him potentially leaving.

The 30-year-old spent the second half of his 2017/18 campaign on loan at Reading and doesn’t look being an important part of Steve Bruce’s plans for the first-team once again.

Elphick may have played the full 90 minutes of the Villans’ season opener against Hull City, scoring in the process, but he has only made the bench for the rest of his side’s league games.

So his exit won’t cause too much harm.

Likely to Happen?

It seems likely that if QPR do make an offer to take the experienced defender on loan before Friday’s deadline than the Villans will quickly sanction his temporary exit.

Steven McClaren clearly will want to address the problem areas of his side before the window shuts and his defence is appearing to cause him headaches.

Therefore it seems that a swoop for Elphick is likely on the cards as given his experience and how he doesn’t regularly feature for the Villans so the London club have no doubt identified him as an option to potentially borrow.

The centre-back’s contract is set to expire next summer so if he departs on a season-long loan to QPR than it’s likely his last Villans appearance would have been the one he made against Burton on Tuesday night.
