Aston Villa fans have made contact with Liverpool about signing winger Sheyi Ojo on loan this season – and have a good chance of getting him, according to a reliable journalist.

Sun correspondentĀ Alan Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon that Villa have made an approach for the 21-year-old as they look to secure a deal before the 31 August Championship loan deadline.

He tweeted that Villa have a realistic chance of landing Ojo because summer winger targets Robert Snodgrass and Marcus Albrighton are playing for West Ham and Leicester respectively.

Good move for Villa?

Yes, especially as deals for top targets Snodgrass and Albrighton appear to be off the table. Ojo does not have the experience or proven pedigree of his fellow Premier League wide boys, but he has demonstrated immense potential since making the breakthrough at Liverpool two seasons ago. Loan spells at Wolves, Fulham and Wigan Athletic have yielded mixed results, partly due to injury issues, but Ojo is a player with the skill and pace to cause problems to opposing defences and has the potential to cause mayhem in the Championship. He scored four goals from 22 league matches for Fulham in the second tier last season, and should make an even bigger impact at Villa if he steers clear of injury.

Likely to happen?

There is a growing chance of a loan as Ojo is down the pecking order at Liverpool, where his first-team path is blocked by a galaxy of attacking stars, including Mohamed Salah in his favoured right-wing role. Villa will need to given guarantees to Liverpool that they will play the youngster if they are to be given the green light for a season-long transfer.
