Many Aston Villa fans have turned to social media to rave over the display of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland after he played a starring role in the 1-1 draw at home to Reading on Saturday afternoon.
The Villans kept up their unbeaten start to the season but were forced to share the points instead of securing all three thanks to an added time penalty from Sam Baldock, after Ahmed Elmohamady had given the home side the lead six minutes into the second half.
Despite the Egyptian’s goal scoring display it was the 27-year-old between the sticks who stole many of the plaudits on Twitter, not least for his outstanding double save to keep his side in the clash.
This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ tweets:
MOTM was Nyland who tbf probably saved us the point. Quality performance after a few shaky first games #AVFC

Need another CB. If not for Nyland’s double wondersave, we might have lost! And although PK is soft, why is Chester even going in there? #AVFC

Opinion
Nyland has stolen the Villa fans’ hearts after his display against the Royals and it is well deserved for the summer signing – he is the only reason why the Villans are walking away from Saturday’s clash with any points at all. Quite frankly, Steve Bruce’s side were poor in defence and there were too many lapses in judgement which led to the Royals having a chance to score. Nyland, as the last line of defence, performed more than admirably and deserves a serious pat on the back and thanks from his team mates in the dressing room after saving their bacon. He had a shaky start to live at Villa Park but having appeared in every league game of the season so far, he is growing week by week. If he continued to perform in this sort of fashion then Bruce has made a signing which will earn his side points all by himself. Goalkeepers can often be scapegoats or forgotten about, but on this occasion, Nyland is deserving of all the praise heading his way.
