Aston Villa’s plans to send young striker Harry McKirdy out on loan have been scuppered after the 21-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder which is set to keep him out for weeks, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) hitman was destined to be shipped out on a temporary basis before the end of the month in order to pick up more senior football, with Friday (31 August) the deadline for English League clubs to secure loans.

However, McKirdy is now facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up the injury blow in a reserve game, and that the club’s plans to send him out will have to be pushed back to January after the last minute setback.

Opinion

This is such an unfortunate injury not only for the player but for the club as well. As a young striker who needs game time, a loan made perfect sense and he would no doubt have been heading to a lower league, or perhaps non-league, side in order to continue training his craft. The injury blow has come at the worst time and Bruce will no doubt be ruing his decision to let the youngster play for the reserve side when he knew he wanted to send him out on loan. However, this is football, and things like this can hardly be predicted. All that needs to happen now is the player focuses on getting back up to full fitness, getting his head down and proving his worth to both Villa and any clubs watching on with a view to a January move. Who knows, if he really performs well then he could be in with a shout of a couple of minutes of Championship action, having been left as an unused substitute for the League Cup clash against Yeovil.
