A section of Celtic fans have destroyed recruitment chief Lee Congerton following the club’s Champions League elimination.
Congerton, who knows Rodgers well from their Chelsea days, was hailed as a great appointment by the manager when he joined from Sunderland as the Hoops head of recruitment last year.
Celtic supporters highlighted Congerton’s transfer business, particularly the failed signing of Marvin Compper in January, as proof of how he has let the club down.

From the outside it certainly looks like Congerton is not doing much, but i have seen a lot of supporters saying ev player we wanted we would not pay the money needed. We need 2 CB’s mate. And Gamboa must play until we get a new RB.

COMMENTARY:
It was inevitable that Celtic fans would eventually turn their fire on Congerton as they look for scapegoats following the club’s failure to reach the Champions League group stages for the first time in Brendan Rodgers’ reign. The manager cut a disappointed and disillusioned figure in the wake of the defeat at AEK Athens, which followed Saturday’s shock defeat to Hearts and the Dedryck Boyata transfer saga. But Rodgers is not the only person to blame, even though he must share culpability as he selects the team and formulates the playing style, and has constantly been found wanting in Europe at Celtic and former club Liverpool. What about Congerton’s signings and attempts to rebuild a central defence that has looked vulnerable for over a year. The January signing of German veteran Marvin Compper has been wretched – he’s played just once – and Jack Hendry has fared little better since joining from Dundee. The club have handed the Boyata saga poorly and it has cast a huge shadow at such a crucial part of the season. What exactly is Congerton doing behind the scenes?
