Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is a target for Spanish club Sevilla this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish newspaper claims that the La Liga side having joined the race for the £10million-rated Belgian defender.

The report reveals that the Hoops are still reluctant to sell the 27-year-old until they find a replacement but are bracing themselves for a bid.

However, it is understood that Brendan Rodgers could be open to a sale with the defender able to leave for nothing next summer when his contract at Celtic Park expires.

OPINION

This is a tough one for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. The reported £10million that the Hoops want might be tempting should Sevilla end up submitting an offer, but that means having to sort out a replacement for him in the last few weeks of the window. The Belgian is a talented defender who proved his ability among top players at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has been a solid performer in Scotland for many years now. However, with his contract running out very quickly, Rodgers has a big decision to make. It all depends on the wishes of the player, if he has his heart set on leaving the club in 12 months anyway, then that makes the decision easier for the Celtic Park boss. However, if he’s shown a willingness to commit to a new deal then he won’t need to panic and he can get on with strengthening other areas of the team, safe in the knowledge that Boyata is going nowhere. Will he stick or twist?
