Aston Villa’s deal for Yannick Bolasie is not agreed yet, although Middlesborough are out of the running, according to a Sky Sports reporter.

Keith Downie claimed that the 29-year-old Everton attacker still needs to sort out a “small issue” with his club before any deal can happen.

He made the claim on his Twitter account during Villa’s 2-2 draw with Brentford last night.

OPINION

Until a deal’s done it’s not done, and although Aston Villa have blown Middlesbrough out of the water, it appears there’s still work to be done before Bolasie joins. Downie doesn’t say what the issue is but he also refers to it as “small” and Villa fans will be hoping it’s a formality that can be ticked off before he signs on the dotted line. If it’s finances it could get more complicated and we don’t know what the structure of the deal is. We do know that Bolasie would be a hugely exciting signing late on in the summer for a club who’s suffered a terrifying rollercoaster ride since losing the play-off final. They were in serious financial trouble and looked like they would be selling all their star players. Instead, they told Tottenham where to go, kept hold of Grealish, and now look set to add a player who would come with real Premier League pedigree. If they can sign him, and he can recapture the form he had at Crystal Palace, another tilt at the Premier League could be on the cards.
