West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic has been ruled out of the league cup game with Wimbledon on Tuesday night after picking up an injury in the defeat to Arsenal, and is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Wolves, according to a club Insider.

ExWHUemployee, a solid source of West Ham news with close links to the club, made the claim on his Twitter page on Tuesday night.

He added that the injury “isn’t as serious as feared” but that he wouldn’t be risked in the cup game, despite Manuel Pellegrini taking it seriously.

The striker will be tested later in the week ahead of the Wolves game.

OPINION

It’s been a disastrous start to the season and West Ham really need Arnautovic back for the Wolves game on Saturday. It sounds like there’s hope but when a player has been suffering with injuries the last thing you want to do is rush him back too soon and risk him being out for an extended period. He will be tested later in the week and West Ham fans will be keeping their fingers crossed after their striker has been the only real ray of light so far this season. Losses to Liverpool, Bournemouth and Arsenal have stemmed the enthusiasm from the fans after a summer of spending, and Arnautovic has scored West Ham’s only two goals to date. What they really need is a big win against Wimbledon tonight to give them a boost going into the game on Saturday against the recently promoted side. Wolves have looked like no mugs after spending heavily themselves, and a fourth straight Premier League defeat would be almost unthinkable.
