Jose Mourinho has confirmed that star forward Alexis Sanchez could miss Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford next Monday.

Sanchez, 29, was absent for the 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Sunday and speaking to United’s official website after the game, Mourinho announced that the Chile international will be sidelined for up to two weeks.

“I don’t know really. Let’s wait for the results of the studies, but I don’t think it’s a big thing. I think it will be one or two weeks maximum,” said the under-fire Man United boss.

Sanchez has made 19 appearances since joining the Red Devils from Arsenal in January, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in the process.

OPINION

It would be a major blow for Man United to be without Sanchez when Spurs travel up to Old Trafford next week. The ex-Barcelona star is without doubt one of the more influential players in Mourinho’s squad and it was clear that someone with his cutting edge was needed to break down Brighton on Sunday. After losing at the AMEX, Mourinho would surely want to throw the 29-year-old straight into the action when Mauricio Pochettino’s men play at Old Trafford next Monday, but now he will have to stick with an attack-force that failed to impress on the south coast. Spurs’ defence is going to be one of the hardest to break down if they are on top of their game. Even with Sanchez, it will be a hard task for the Red Devils, so either way, it’s unlikely that United will walk away from this one with all three points.
