Celtic’s bid to sign Scotland international Scott McKenna has been rejected by Aberdeen, according to Radio Clyde.

Superscoreboard claimed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that the Dons have given the Hoops a negative response to their offer for the 6ft 2in (transfermarkt) powerhouse as Brendan Rodgers eyes reinforcements to his leaky defence.

McKenna, 21, is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and from what Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was quoted as saying by BBC Sport, he is not expected to return to action for at least a few weeks.

OPINION

Celtic’s issues in defence are widely reported, and it is a surprise that it has taken until this late stage in the transfer window for Brendan Rodgers to submit a bid for McKenna. The four-times Scotland international has only ever really had one full season of top-flight football at Pittodrie, but that has not stopped Rodgers from making an effort to add him to his squad. It was always likely that Celtic’s first bid was going to be turned down. With the way that the Bhoys went after John McGinn, it’s likely that this could drag on for over a week. However with English clubs still able to sign players on loan with a view to a permanent deal, there is still the chance that someone down south could hijack Celtic’s move for the Dons star. However that may not be a bad thing because is McKenna really an improvement on what Rodgers already has? He could just end up being another Jack Hendry.
