Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has been losing his mind over Leeds United defender Tyler Denton after he scored a stunning volley in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Denton, 22, was confirmed as Peterborough player for the 2018/19 campaign on Friday after he agreed a season-long loan move to London Road.

And it has not taken him long to make an impact at the League One club, scoring a top drawer goal against Bedford Town and drawing comparisons to Brazil legend Roberto Carlos.

“What a worldie volley from new LeedsĀ boy Tyler D.. he will score some goals,” said MacAnthony on his personal Twitter account on Saturday.

When someone asked about calling him Cafu, the English club chairman said: “Or Roberto Carlos.”

OPINION

Leeds fans were a bit miffed when the club decided to send Denton out on loan again for next season as many see him as a potential first team player. However Marcelo Bielsa has very much a different plan for the 22-year-old, who will now try to continue his development in League One at London Road. Bielsa could be instantly regretting that idea though if he ever gets around to seeing Denton’s goal, but Leeds’ network of scouts may be keeping an eye on how he’s doing and could bring it to the Argentine’s attention if continues to put in top performances throughout the campaign. For now Leeds already have two first team left-backs in Laurens De Bock and Tom Pearce. It will be interesting if Bielsa gives De Bock a second chance to impress after a poor first few months at Elland Road last term. Pearce may also be loaned out, and that will really annoy fans.
