Rangers striker Eduardo Herrera will be formally unveiled by Santos Laguna tomorrow, it has been confirmed.

The forward returned to his former club earlier this week after joining the Mexican outfit on a one-year loan.

Herrera was pictured training with his new teammates for the first time today (Wednesday) as the club make final preparations ahead of the beginning of the Liga MX.

OPINION

Rangers spent around £1.5million on Herrera last summer when the board backed Pedro Caixinha in the transfer market and soon found his judgement was as impaired as his management style. Carlos Pena was the biggest waste of money, but his fellow Mexican Herrera – who was said to have acted as translator for his teammate during training – has barely been better value. His 21 appearances for Rangers yielded just two goals and his performances were so lumpen many wondered how on earth he had managed to play nine times for his country – and score three goals to boot. Herrera never looked anything other than slow and out of condition in a Rangers shirt, which was another thing he had in common with countryman Pena. Can Rangers ever hope to get much back from their initial £1.5million outlay? It’s unlikely, given Herrera turns 30 later this month. The club will just have to put it down to experience, unless the player has the season of his life.
