Middlesbrough are ready to table a bid for West Brom winger Matt Phillips, according to TEAMtalk.

The football site claim Boro are ready to offer striker Britt Assombalonga in part exchange for top summer target Phillips.

TEAMtalk report that Assombalong is surplus to requirements under Tony Pulis at the Riverside Stadium and they are keen to cash in on him this summer.

Good move for West Brom?

Definitely. With Solomon Rondon seemingly set for the exit door amid strong interest from Newcastle United, the Baggies will need a centre-forward who is proven in the Championship. Assombalonga appears to have fallen out with Pulis at Boro but that does not mean he is not a quality striker at this level who could help shoot West Brom back into the Premier League. Losing Phillips would be a blow but his record at the Hawthorns is hardly startling and last season he scored just three times in 34 games while supplying a further three assists. Replacing a hit-and-miss wide man with a prolific centre-forward with 45 goals from 113 Championship matches would be very smart business indeed.

Likely to happen?

Given that Pulis appears very keen to get shot of Assombalong after what appears to be a falling-out, there is a growing chance the two players could swap clubs this summer. There remains plenty of time left to get a deal done, but there is plenty of negotiating work still on the cards.
