West Ham are in the hunt to sign Benfica forward Haris Seferovic this summer, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claims via their website that Brighton and Wolfsburg are also in pursuit of Seferovic, 26, as he will be leaving Benfica this summer just a year after he was signed up by the Lisbon giants.

It is understood that the Switzerland international, who made three appearances at the World Cup, has a release clause worth a staggering £53.1million, however Benfica would be willing to let him leave for a much lower fee worth £8.9million.

Good move for West Ham?

Seferovic did not have a great debut season in Portugal.

He scored seven goals in 29 appearances across all competitions and only managed to start nine times in Liga NOS for Benfica.

The 26-year-old is available for a cheap deal, but will he be good enough for the Hammers?

It’s unlikely that he would serve as an improvement on Manuel Pellegrini’s current options and signing him would just be wasting money on someone to sit on the bench and start the odd cup game.

West Ham should avoid this one.

Likely to happen?

Seferovic “will” be leaving Benfica this summer according to this report, but it seems unlikely that he would be heading to the London Stadium especially when Wolfsburg are interested.

The Switzerland international has already spent a chunk of his career in Germany and it wouldn’t be unlikely for him to head back there and move closer to his home nation.

However if West Ham grow desperate late into the transfer window, there’s still a chance they could make a move.
