West Brom are looking at swooping for free agent James Collins this summer as they also try to seal a deal for Swansea City’s Kyle Bartley, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The reporter, who writes for the Sun, claims on his personal Twitter account that the Baggies are keen on snapping up Premier League veteran Collins after he was released from West Ham at the end of his contract.

The Welsh international, who has 279 top flight appearances under his belt, is one of two central defenders the midlands club are said to be eyeing up, with a move for Bartley reportedly wanted completed sooner rather than later.

Good move for West Brom?

Absolutely, for Collins really should still be playing Premier League football.

He was let go from West Ham with much disappointment from the Irons faithful, and that shows that they felt he still had it in him to play at the top of his game, even at 34.

In the Championship, his experience and know how should leave him a cut above the rest of the field, and would be a real asset to West Brom’s hopes of getting promoted.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on who else is circling for his capture, for it is not often you have the chance of a top flight veteran on a free transfer.

Out of the Championship, West Brom would have to be considered firm favourites to seal a deal, but if a Premier League side came hunting then they may find themselves blown out of the water.
