West Brom have opened talks to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Simon Moore, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football website reports that the 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossal shot-stopper is a key figure on the Baggies’ list of potential transfer targets, after they gave the green light for Ben Foster and Boaz Myhill to exit the club this summer.

Boss Darren Moore has already acquired the services of keeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United, but the newly-relegated club are said to be aiming to bring in the 28-year-old to provide cover and healthy competition for Johnstone.

Moore found himself falling out of favour at the Blades, making only 15 starts due to the arrival of Jamal Blackman on loan from Chelsea last season.

Good move for West Brom?

Yes, absolutely. Every club needs at least two top-quality goalkeepers, and the potential addition of Moore from their Championship rivals, along with Johnstone, would ensure that West Brom do just that.

Moore’s first-team chances are limited at Bramall Lane following the signing of Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United, so a move to the Hawthorns is ideal for him.

Competition for the number one spot will be fierce, but there is no reason why Moore would not be able to challenge Johnstone for it if he joined the club.

Likely to happen?

Yes, definitely. West Brom have already begun talks to sign Moore, which is a good sign if they want to progress the move imminently.

Moore would undoubtedly be seeking a move elsewhere to gain regular playing time, so it is the perfect opportunity for both parties to take advantage.

No other clubs appear to be in the running to sign Moore, which is good news for West Brom, who are in need of a second goalkeeper amongst their ranks.
