Swansea City have signed striker Joel Asoro from Sunderland, as confirmed on the club’s official website.

The website states that the exciting 19-year-old flyer has put pen to paper in a deal that commits him to the Liberty Stadium for four years until 2022, as he becomes the Swans’ third signing of the summer having left the Black Cats.

As revealed on the club’s website, Swansea boss Graham Potter has been a long-term admirer of the former Sunderland speed machine, who has represented Sweden internationally at under-21 level.

He made his debut for Sunderland at the age of 17, having signed for the recently relegated club four years ago when he was 15.

OPINION

Joel Asoro may not have been able to help Sunderland avoid the drop into League One, but he has certainly caught the eye of Graham Potter. He is only 19 and is going to undoubtedly improve with age despite only netting nine goals for his former side last season. However, Asoro has an element of international experience with the under 21 team in Sweden, a quality which Potter will be wanting to explore next season. It was only in the last campaign that he really started to display his true potential as a forward, playing 35 times for Sunderland, which is an impressive statistic for a player of his age. He has the required Championship experience to succeed at Swansea, and the fans will certainly be hoping he improves his eye for goal in order to fire them to the Premier League next season. It will be exciting to see how Asoro develops over the coming years with Swansea.
