Rangers are on the verge of signing Umar Sadiq on a season-long loan from Roma after he arrived in the UK earlier this week, according to OwnGoalNigeria.

The Nigerian news outlet claims that speed demon Sadiq, 21, is now scheduled to undergo a medical with the Scottish Premiership club ahead of becoming Steven Gerrard’s eighth signing since becoming the Light Blues’ manager.

Sadiq spent last season on loan in the Netherlands with NAC Breda, where he was praised for his pace and power by former team-mate Karol Mets.

“When you look at him — this slim, 6ft 4in guy — you think he’s going to be a target man. But there’s a lot more to him than that,” Mets said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“He’s lightning-quick and, for that reason, he played a lot of games for Breda on the wing.

“One-on-one he’s very good and because of that you have to mark him very tightly.”

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers are in need of reinforcements up front with Kenny Miller and Jason Cummings leaving – but Sadiq seems like a bit of a risky replacement.

The Nigerian scored five goals in 12 appearances during his loan spell at NAC Breda in the second-half of the season, and the Gers need to be looking at players who have a better scoring record in better leagues than that.

Sadiq is still young and possesses a lot of strong characteristics, but there’s just something about this one that doesn’t seem too appealing.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though this deal is now very close to completion and Rangers will finally have a new striker added to their books.

Sadiq should pass his medical with no problems after what has been quite a wait between now and reports that a loan deal had been agreed.
