Rangers have been priced out of a move for Millwall’s Jake Cooper and while a deal for Blackpool’s Curtis Tilt could be on the cards Steven Gerrard does not seem certain about sealing his signature, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter delivered his update of the Light Blues’ hunt for a new centre back on his personal Twitter account, revealing that the Lions’ 6’5″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus was out of reach on a financial level.

Meanwhile the Tangerines’ 26-year-old enforcer is said to be an easier deal to complete if the Gers were to push on for his capture, but that there appears to be some hesitancy from Gerrard’s side, with Conor Goldson and Nikola Katic already helping bolster the centre of the defence at Ibrox this summer.

Opinion

Cooper certainly seemed Gerrard’s first choice centre back to add to his options this summer and after missing out, he could well have turned his attentions to Tilt instead. However, with one playing in the Championship and Blackpool in League One, there could well be a notable difference in quality, and that might be why Gerrard is said to be uncertain about turning his interest into a full on swoop. He does indeed need another option at the heart of the defence and with the clock ticking away until the end of summer, he needs to make a decision on whether Tilt is the right man for the job. If he is, a move should be launched quickly so he is given time to bed into the first team at Ibrox. If he is not suitable, then Gerrard has to turn his attentions elsewhere and get the ball rolling, or risk missing out altogether.
