Rangers are in the hunt to sign Iran international Milad Mohammadi this summer, with a move for the Akhmat Grozny left-back on the cards, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims via their website that it would cost the Gers £2million to sign Mohammadi, 24, and that a work permit should not be a problem for the defender, who has 21 caps for Iran – two of which came at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Iranian speed demon, who is known for his blistering pace on the left flank, went viral for failing to pull off an extravagant throw-in against Spain in Iran’s Group B clash with 2010 winners last month.

Good move for Rangers?

Unless Steven Gerrard is planning to make some more sales, Rangers are not in desperate need of a left-back – especially at £2million.

Declan John was one of Pedro Caixinha’s best signings last summer and he is bound to keep his spot in the Gers starting line-up after an impressive debut campaign at Ibrox from the Welshman.

Lee Wallace and Lee Hodson are still on the books while Andy Halliday can also play at left-back.

Jon Flanagan is more than likely a back-up right-back option to James Tavernier, but he too can fill in on the opposite side of the defence when needed, so it is hard to see why Gerrard would spent so much on Mohammadi when he does not need him.

Likely to happen?

Because of the abundance of options that Gerrard has at full-back, it’s hard to see why he would make this signing.

Mohammadi can play a more advanced role on the left-wing, but if the Light Blues were to spend £2million, they would be doing it on someone who is an out-and-out winger rather than a full-back.
