Nottingham Forest are in pursuit of centre-back Tom Lockyer from Bristol Rovers, according to the Nottingham Post.

The regional newspaper reports on their website that despite the Reds keen on bringing West Ham defender Sam Byram to the City Ground on loan, boss Aitor Karanka is seeking out reinforcements to enhance the right-back role.

The 23-year-old powerhouse – who stands at six foot (source: Transfermarkt) tall – is understood to be on the list of potential transfer targets for Forest, as they seek to make the final signing to ensure they are a formidable force in the Championship next season.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Yes, possibly. Karanka has also been looking at other potential right-back targets and Lockyer looks to be amongst the mix.

He is a versatile player who can operate as a central defender as well as right-back, and this is the type of player that the Spanish coach should be looking for in his search.

Lockyer was snapped up by Bristol Rovers after being released at 16 by Cardiff, but he has since established himself as an powerful figure in the League One side.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it could possibly happen. Forest’s pursuit of Sam Byram has been rolling on for a while now and it remains to be seen what will happen there.

Should a move for him not materialise, then there is every chance that Lockyer could join the Reds, as he is an ideal alternative.

No approaches have been made, but the fact they are monitoring him is a good sign.
