Nottingham Forest are one of a number of Championship clubs in hot pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Tosin Kehinde, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

The Nigerian news outlet claims that Forest, QPR, Reading, Derby and Brentford have all held “initial talks” the 20-year-old’s camp, however it is understood that they are not prepared to spend a £500,000 compensation fee that has been quoted by the Premier League giants.

The report adds that United have rejected the idea of handing the Nigerian midfielder a new deal before loaning him out, so will hold out for a six-figure compensation fee which is proving to be a “major stumbling block” in a potential transfer.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Unless Kehinde is going to be a first team player, then there’s no point in Aitor Karanka spending half-a-million on the midfielder.

Kehinde has no senior appearance after rising through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and would more than likely just be an addition to the development squad at Forest if the club was to sign him.

However with United remaining reluctant to offer him a new deal, it will mean that a compensation fee will have to be spent and even though £500,000 seems like a small fee, it is way too much for Forest and they are better off saving that money to strengthen the first team squad elsewhere.

Likely to happen?

A lot of clubs are said to be interested in Kehinde.

As well as the mentioned Championship clubs, team from Spain, Austria, France, Turkey, Netherlands, Sweden and Norway are also reportedly keen on the midfielder.

Forest seem very unlikely to make this deal happen, especially with United’s stubbornness and interest from across Europe.
