BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has claimed that Hibernian midfielder John McGinn would go to extreme lengths to play for Celtic after it was reported that Brendan Rodgers has bid for the Scotland international.

The Daily Record has claimed that the Bhoys made an offer for McGinn, 23, on Monday night, but it is understood to be well below Hibs’ valuation and has been rejected.

As quoted by the Scotsman in March, Neil Lennon has confirmed that he wants £5million for the midfield maestro, who has been key to Hibs’ revival in the last couple of seasons.

And now ex-Easter Road striker McManus has asserted that McGinn is very much keen on moving to Parkhead at some stage.

“Would walk on broken glass to play for Celtic,” said the BBC pundit on his personal Twitter account when asked about McGinn’s potential move to Glasgow’s East End.

OPINION

McGinn would be a very good addition for Celtic and given the fact that he is in the final year of his contract, he should definitely be affordable for Rodgers after he spent a club record sum on Odsonne Edouard earlier this summer. Last season, the 23-year-old scored six goals and supplied eight assists in 43 appearances across all competitions and put in top performances against the likes of Rangers and Celtic, even though Hibs were technically news boys on the block after their promotion the season before. McManus’ comments show that McGinn would definitely want to head to Parkhead and that may see Lennon give in and eventually accept a bid. He cannot risk losing the midfielder on a free transfer next year when his contract has expired so this move can more than likely be expected to take place late in the summer when Lennon finally gives in.
