Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter is the most likely player to sign for Newcastle United next, according to Football Whispers.
The football news site claims that Newcastle are firmly in the running to sign Arter, 28, this summer, rating the chances of him heading to St James’ Park as 3.6 out of 5.
Football Whispers gathers transfer rumours from across the world and calculates the chances of them coming true out of five, so in this case, there is certainly a strong chance that the Republic of Ireland international will sign for the Magpies in the coming weeks.
According to statistics website Spotrac, the midfielder earns £40,000-a-week on his deal at Premier League club Bournemouth.

Newcastle do not need to look at strengthening their midfield just yet and if they did, they should have their eye on targets that are much better than Arter. He is not really an improvement on say Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame or Mikel Merino, but if one of them was to leave. Rafa Benitez should definitely have serious think about signing the Bournemouth man. Arter was very much a fringe player on the south coast last season. He made just 16 appearances for the Cherries across all competitions, with only one Premier League appearance coming between January and the end of the campaign. If he is not good enough to get in Eddie Howe’s first team, he certainly is not good enough to get into Benitez’s and given the fact that he is on £40,000-a-week, it may take a lot of money to pry him away from the Vitality Stadium.
