Leeds United are set to see Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford complete his move to Elland Road today (Tuesday, July 31) after the club failed to secure Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claim that a deal for the 24-year-old is all done and dusted and that it appears likely the move will be officially announced today, with former Boro chief and current director of football at Leeds, Victor Orta, securing his capture for the second time.

It was the Spaniard who took the English hitman from Chelsea to the Riverside back in 2017, and after struggling to secure a much needed centre forward, Bamford’s record impressed the transfer team at the Whites, and most importantly manager Marcelo Bielsa.

It is stated that the reason behind a swoop for the Boro man comes from his record of scoring from open play, as well as the impact he has on the entire team.

Opinion

While the likes of Hernandez and Vydra might be more illustrious names, Leeds are still getting their hands on a decent Championship striker in the form of Bamford. On his day, the former Chelsea man is an absolute nightmare for defenders, using his movement and finishing skill to put the opposition to the sword. Perhaps he has not had enough of those days while with Middlesbrough, but leading the line for Leeds he will be expected to bring much more consistency to his game. Another factor many might forget is that he is only 24-years-old, a relative youngster, and under Bielsa he could well continue to develop and grow into exactly what the Whites need for the near future, as well as the medium and long term. Leeds did not have anyone effective enough at influencing games last season but in Bamford, they have a proven game changer. They just need to feed him the opportunities and he will fire home the goals that the club are spending money on securing.
