West Ham must stump up an extra £5million to land Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes as he is a player who can guarantee goals for the Hammers.

The dynamic Portuguese attacker was in sensational form in the centre of the park last season where he totalled an incredible 20 assists in a total of 56 games for the Portuguese giants and let’s not forget the 16 times he found the back of the net himself.

With Jack Wilshere’s arrival at the club all but a confirmed deal (source: football.london), there still spells a need for reinforcements to the heart of midfield as despite the former Arsenal star’s undoubted talent, his final ball has a tendency to go awry.

Fernandes has no such issues and his lethal, razor-sharp ability to carve out that key through ball is the very reason why the Hammers have already launched a £20m bid for the midfielder, but according to Sky Sports, the Primeira Liga side want £25m as talks continue over a transfer.

A potential midfield partnership of Wilshere and Fernandes is mouthwatering to say the least, and a further £5m that it would take for Sporting to sanction a transfer is nothing when the benefits of landing the 23-year-old far outweigh the transfer fee.

The Hammers have so far made moves to improve their defence with the capture of Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks, and Lukasz Fabianski, now they need to address their attack and Fernandes is the man who can be the link between midfield and attack.

David Sullivan must go the extra mile and make sure the season-defining transfer happens.
