West Brom are plotting a bid to sign Iran international Milad Mohammadi, who is also on the radar of Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic, according to Football Insider.

The news outlet claims that the 24-year-old left-back is valued at £3million by his club Akhmat Grozny, who play in the Russian Premier League.

Mohammadi is usually known for his rapid pace down the left wing, however he went home from the World Cup in Russia this summer after going viral for a failed attempt at a forward roll going into a throw-in.

Good move for West Brom?

West Brom are pretty light for options in defence at the moment, at both full-back positions and at centre-back.

Mohammadi is a very attack-minded left-back who can also play on the left wing, so could have been a replacement for James McClean in that area after he left for Stoke, but Albion have since signed Harvey Barnes on loan from Leicester.

At £3million, there’s not a lot of risk involved in signing the Iranian speed demon, however there should be cautioned erred over signing players on the back of a World Cup. Jason Davidson and Cristian Gamboa come to mind.

Albion need a back-up option to Kieran Gibbs at left-back, but Mohammadi is not really the answer.

Likely to happen?

West Brom have made four signings so far and appear to be doing their business on a deal-by-deal basis.

McClean can play at left-back whereas Barnes can’t, so Darren Moore may be in for a left-back now.

Is Mohammadi the man that the Baggies will sign? The Black Country club do not appear to be taking risks this summer, so probably not.
